2. What was the origin of Qrendi?
The first inhabitants dates back to 3800BC - the Temple Age followed by the Phenicians in the Bronze Age (2500BC). Although Qrendi enters the realm of written history in the year 1417, it was a habited site much earlier. Within the bounds of Qrendi we find the magnificent and world famous Temples of Mnajdra and Hagar Qim built during the Temple Age. In the Bronze Age, the Temple people were replaced by the Phoenicians, then by the Carthaginians, the Roman and the Byzantine Empires. Remains of shaft graves, field catacombs and archeological evidence testify long ago habitation.
